CHOSEN asks for unusually personal information — your relationship history, your birth details, your voice, your journal. This page explains exactly what we collect, why, who can see it, and how you stay in control.
Last updated September 4, 2026
1. What we collect
- Account details — name, email, and the password or sign-in provider you use.
- Profile content — photos, age, city, prompts, interests, relationship intentions and preferences.
- Assessment answers — readiness quiz and compatibility profile responses and the scores derived from them.
- Birth details — date, time and place of birth, when you choose to provide them for astrology features.
- Voice recordings — voice prompts you record, their transcripts and attunement analysis.
- Journal entries — anything you write in your private journal.
- Activity — matches, saves, interests, messages, event RSVPs and feature usage.
- Verification and safety signals — selfie or photo verification evidence, reports, blocks and basic device or network signals used to detect duplicate or fraudulent accounts.
- Technical data — IP address, browser and device information, and essential cookies. See the Cookie Notice.
2. Why we use it
- To run your account, profile and membership.
- To generate compatibility scores, astrology insights, coaching guidance and weekly plans.
- To surface and curate matches, including human matchmaking review.
- To verify members and keep the community safe from impersonation, fraud and abuse.
- To send transactional and community email you have not opted out of.
- To fix problems, measure feature usage and improve the product.
- To comply with legal obligations.
3. Sensitive information
Some of what you share — birth details, spiritual practice, relationship intentions, journal writing, voice — is personal in nature. You choose whether to provide it. Birth details are private by default and are only used for astrology and synastry features; you control their visibility in Settings. Journal entries are private to you, and each entry can be sealed so AI features never read it.
3a. Biometric and voice information
Two features involve data that some laws (including the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act, Texas CUBI, and Washington's My Health My Data Act) treat as biometric or sensitive:
- Photo verification — you submit a live pose selfie. A reviewer on our team compares it with your profile photos by eye. We do not run facial-recognition matching, we do not create or store a faceprint or face geometry template, and we do not use verification images to train any model.
- Voice prompts — recordings you choose to make are transcribed and analysed for tone and emotional attunement. We do not create a voiceprint for identification purposes.
Both are optional in the sense that you control when you submit them, and both can be withdrawn: delete a voice recording at any time, and ask us to delete verification images once your verification decision is made. Verification images are retained no longer than three years after your last interaction with us, and are deleted with your account. We do not sell, lease or trade biometric or voice data, and we do not disclose it except to the processors that host it for us or where the law requires it. If we ever introduce facial-recognition matching or government-ID verification, we will obtain separate, explicit written consent first.
4. AI processing
Insights, compatibility narratives, coaching replies, voice transcription and message translation are produced with third-party AI providers. Content needed for a feature is sent to the provider to generate the result, and the result is stored on your account. We do not permit these providers to use your content to train their public models. You can decline AI journal analysis, seal individual entries, skip voice prompts, and leave birth details blank — those features simply stay off.
5. Who can see your information
- Other members see only what your profile and privacy settings expose — never your email, exact address, birth details you have kept private, journal, or assessment answers.
- CHOSEN staff and matchmakers can view profile, assessment and safety information to curate matches and moderate the community.
- Service providers — hosting, database, email delivery, AI processing and astrology calculation — process data on our behalf under contract.
- Law enforcement or regulators, only where legally required or to protect someone's safety.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
6. Your controls
- Edit or remove profile content, photos and voice recordings at any time.
- Pause your profile so you are hidden from discovery while keeping your account.
- Toggle birth-detail visibility, voice-prompt visibility and notification preferences in Settings.
- Seal journal entries from AI, or permanently purge your journal.
- Unsubscribe from non-essential email from any message footer.
- Download a complete copy of your data, or permanently delete your account, from Settings → Your Data & Rights.
- Ask us to correct information you cannot edit yourself.
To make a request, email privacy@choosehigherlove.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting.
7. Retention
We keep your information while your account is active. After you delete your account we remove your profile from the platform and delete or anonymise your personal data, except records we must keep for legal, tax, security or dispute-resolution reasons — for example a record of a safety report or a payment receipt.
7a. How long we keep things
- Account, profile, assessment, astrology, journal, voice and plan data — while your account is active, then deleted when you delete your account.
- Verification selfies — up to 3 years after your last interaction, or until you ask us to delete them, whichever is sooner.
- Messages — retained while both accounts exist; on deletion your messages are anonymised so the other member's copy of the conversation stays coherent.
- Safety reports, blocks and moderation records — up to 5 years after the account closes, in anonymised form where possible, to protect the community.
- Payment and tax records — 7 years, as required by US tax and accounting rules. These are held by our payment processor and by us in summary form.
- Email delivery logs — 24 months.
- Backups — deleted data may persist in encrypted backups for up to 35 days before rotation removes it.
7b. US state privacy rights
If you live in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon or another state with a comprehensive privacy law, you have the right to know what we collect, access a portable copy, correct it, delete it, limit our use of sensitive personal information, and opt out of sale, sharing or targeted advertising. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we do not use it for profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
Exercise access and deletion yourself in Settings → Your Data & Rights, or email privacy@choosehigherlove.com. We respond within 45 days and may extend once where the law allows. You may use an authorised agent, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising a right. If we deny a request you may appeal by replying to our decision; we will answer the appeal within 45 days.
If you are in the UK or EEA, our legal bases are contract (running your account), consent (sensitive data such as birth details, voice and journal content, and non-essential cookies), legitimate interests (safety, fraud prevention, product improvement) and legal obligation. You may withdraw consent at any time and have the right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.
8. Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with access controls so that members can only reach their own records, plus the limited profile information other members are permitted to see. Staff access is restricted to roles that need it. No system is perfectly secure; please use a strong, unique password and tell us immediately if you suspect your account has been accessed.
9. Age requirement
CHOSEN is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. You must confirm you are 18 or older when you create an account. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; if we learn that a minor has created an account we delete it and its data promptly. If you believe a minor is using CHOSEN, email privacy@choosehigherlove.com.
10. International transfers
Our providers may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for those transfers.
11. Changes and contact
The data controller for CHOSEN™ is Eternal Flame Institute LLC, an Oregon limited liability company in the United States. We will post updates here and notify members of material changes. Questions or privacy requests: privacy@choosehigherlove.com.
